I'm hoping someone can help me out with my new 'gift'. I used to play around with hobbie cats and small dinghy's as a kid but haven't been on the water for a few years. Any tips or memories/annecdotes would be appreciated.
its a Ben Lexcen designed 'Swinger' (11 ft) circa 1970, built by Miller and Whitworth (now Whitworth; just selling gear), Sydney. i have the hull (all glass, some small chips needing minor repair), mast and boom (both aluminium extrusion but suffering from some serious lack of love), rudder and centre board (both glass coated; cb has a chunk missing). i also have original rigging/fit out guide! I don't have any sails, and think i'll probably need to re-rig the whole thing.
I am hoping someone can help me with info about; sails, where I might find some, or who to contact about getting some made up (I'm near Ballina, NSW) rigging, how long do stainless stays last- do I need to redo? mast/boom, how to resurect aluminium, or what would indicate replacement time! Anything else a newbie should do/look for.
I'd appreciate any feed back as I know she'd like to get back into the water after her 15 year stay in a carport!

How did you go with your Swinger. Today I found out that the boat I have is a Swinger and can find barely anything on the web about it. Have found it is designed by Bob Miller who later became Ben Lexcen. My mast and sail seem to be in good condition although a few chips and cracks in the hull. Still gets around though.

G'day, had any luck with the sailing dinghy? I was given a Swinger a couple of years ago - complete and working (including spinaker, trapeze!). I have an owners manual & rigging guide etc. if you need some info.

Hello, I also have a Swinger in VG condition with spinnaker and all rigging. I would love to get a copy of any literature on this brave little training dingy. Noel 0427031947

We are trying to re rig a Swinger at our Scout boat shed. Any chance on the rigging manual. I've already tried directly with Whitworths with no success.
Thanks

I've just bought one of these to teach my boys to sail. It has been modified and neglected over the years and needs to be re rigged. Any chance someone would be kind enough to send me a copy of the manual and rigging guide? I was going to improvise but would prefer to keep it original. Thanks. I know all these responses are a long time ago now but I have acquired a Ben Lexen 11' Swinger. Just wondering if Brenden (who said he had a copy of the manual) is still out there) and could assist with some rigging / sheet details. Any pictures of the boat rigged would be most helpful.
Thanks David

I have a Swinger sail #100 in my shed with original hull, mast, boom, sails (main, jib, and spinnaker), daggerboard, rudder, and tiller. I even used it when I was kid in the early 2000’s, and I can remember how to rig it. I would even sail it with the jib solo. As I have the original M&W sails with the logo on them, I can take measurements of them as well as photos for you to use when making new sails. I always really loved the bright yellow sails and the orange spinnaker. I would love to restore this boat, as it’s leaking from some cracks around the daggerboard slot. Sadly I haven’t been able to sail it since coming up to Alaska, as the waters are too cold and I couldn’t afford a dry suit when I was younger, and then I forgot about it till recently. I love the design.
If you want any specs from mine, or photos of the sails, just let me know.
My email is: jhazelton@mac.com
